Interview for Our Single Purpose

Below is a Q&A that I recently did for Our Single Purpose, and I thought I would share it here. Hope you enjoy it. Happy Tuesday, my friends!
Kerri Pomarolli is one of the top Christian powerhouse and spiritual warriors in Hollywood. Her clean comedy has people rolling in laughter worldwide and her heart keeps her in front of charitable causes with a passion! I am so thankful to have worked with Kerri in the past, and to call her my friend.  Kerri resides in Los Angeles with her husband Ron (who is also a comedian), and their two children.  However, before marriage, Kerri's topics for her comedy routines came from her singleness. She has also written two books on the topic, and her ministry has been a great encouragement to me over the years. I think we single ladies can learn a lot from her wisdom, and I am blessed to have her as a guest for my post today.
-  What is one piece of advice that no one gave you as a single person that in retrospect would have really helped you?
Marriage is much harder than being single. You will be happy when you're married but you will never ever get this amount of free time back. It may seem silly, but try to appreciate this time rather than view it as loneliness. Appreciate this time in your life to be selfish, travel, watch what you want on tv, take long showers, have friends over all the time, stay up late, and eat the last piece of cake. It will change quickly. You will have the rest of your life to have people pulling at you every minute and you will miss this time!
- How did you stay focused on God and his standards for relationships as a single person living in LA surrounded by many temptations?
It's no different in LA than anywhere else. We have the same raging hormones and emotions. If you're 28 and you think you're too big a girl not to play by the rules and go over to your boyfriend's house late at night..you'll see why the rules are there..for your own good. It's not about where you live it's about how you live. I did have a task force of women who were my accountability and that was huge help.
- You have written two books on singleness and dating. Tell us more about them and how you want them to encourage readers?
I was sick of reading books by authors who "were" single then got married at 18 . I read "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," but wasn't buying it. I wanted to kiss dating HELLOOO. I didn't want all dating books to make me feel bad about being single. I wrote my books "Guys Like Girls Named Jennie" and "How to Ruin Your Dating Life" to teach singles some things, and also for them to laugh at my crazy mixed up REAL journey. I did it all wrong and still got it right in the end. God forgives and doesn't keep score. By the way, I need some love on Amazon.  if you like my books please go review them!
- How did you serve Christ and the church as a single lady, and what are some ways you would encourage those who are currently single to serve?
I did some mission trips, the camp counselor thing, and spent a lot of time with the older ladies at prayer group. I invested a lot of time with older ladies because they are wise. My good friend Betty is now 98, and she and I traveled together on a mission trip. I think when you're single you have time on your side. Spend it wisely.
- You are a light for Christ in Hollywood and I love your boldness for Him. In what ways can we be praying for you as you continue to minister to people through your comedy in LA as well as across the country?
Pray for open doors in Hollywood. Pray for Ron and I to work more in town, on the sets of film and TV shows. Satan doesn't want us on the sets but we know we can see a difference in people's lives. I have some projects coming up such as my book becoming a film. I really have a heart to create projects Christians can be a part of and that we're all proud of. Please keep my whole family in prayer.

Jelly Beans Jams Blog 1: Ruby Rocks Out!

Ok so the guilt was killing me. My first child Lucy had been in gymnastics, mommy and me everything , dance , and pretty much every other toddler activity an over achieving first time mom would put her child in. So then when the second child arrived. It was my best effort to make sure she gets finer things in life such as food on a daily basis and that I change her diaper at least once a week..I mean day!

But she’s almost 2 so I decided to investigate fun class we could both enjoy. I’ll do anything to avoid things like soccer. If mama’s not happy then well she won’t remember to take you to your boring classes like art or soccer. But I love music and so do my kids. My 4 year old has a mild to moderate obsession with Michael Jackson. Ruby loves to jam out with her sister and even has learned to try to snap her fingers to the beat. My friend invited me to try a  free class at a local studio in Westchester and we did.It was fun, and Ruby liked it but I was kind of bored to tell you the truth. I hate to say it but I kept looking at the clock to it to be over and I was petrified Ruby was gonna tackle the other kids in the very small room. She didn’t do that she just stole some poor baby boy’s bottle and put it in her mouth and started drinking. At least the mom laughed about it.

We later tried Jelly Bean Jams. Right off the bat I liked it better because it takes place in a beautiful studio with lots of light. There were wall  mirrors and my daughter Ruby is very fond of looking at herself. ( Wonder where she gets that from?)So immediately Ruby ran to the mirros and the instructers were so kind about it.At Jelly Bean jams the class environment is really laid back and fun. I didn’t stress about my daughter sitting my lap or not. Teacher Cristina has such a way with kids a couple times she picked Ruby right up in her arms and danced with her. Ruby smiled and danced with the kids from ages 8 months to 2 years old.We did the scarf dance and I decided to get in my own dance work out. There were mom’s  and a dad too which is cool because my husband will be going too. There was such a variety of activities there was no time to get bored. I have to say she sold me when she pulled out some unexpected Michael Jackson for the free dance time. I knew we were HOME!

We signed up immediately and look forward to next week’s Rockin Jelly Bean Jam!

Newsletter: Kerri, Ron and Carol Channing!

Kerri Pomarolli & Ron McGeheeSeptember 2012

Hey People,

Who's fired up school is here? Everyone but the homeschool parents, right? My girls both started school today. Ruby is going to the "Mom's Day Out" once a week where Lucy attended. Lucy is in Spanish Pre-K. She's very excited because Dora has been a major influence in her life. I dropped her off today a little bit teary-eyed. Lucy immediately put on the "Super Girl Costume" and said "BYYYYYE MOM! Um can you please leave now?" So it's official, she's a teenager. I'm going to check on Ruby in an hour to make sure the McGehee biting curse has been broken and she will not be acting like a predator at school as her sister did. Lucy even bit a cat's tail and she's pretty proud of it.

September is here and as usual the California summer has finally arrived with hot weather. We're trying to sneak in some back yard movie nights while we can. I have a lot of exciting stuff coming up this fall and as you all know the big California Women's Conference with me, Ron and 20,000 women is in September. Carol Channing is now coming and as I mentioned before I've been promoted to speaking on the main stage as part of the opening and the closing sessions. PRAYYYY people that I'm funny. Also--seriously--I'd ask to pray for connections and open doors for Ron and I throughout this event, for more assignments in the secular world and right here in Hollywood.

Bless you guys!
